Who we serve

One standard for everyone around the international patient journey

Clinics and hospitals, longevity centres and thermal spas, and the facilitators who connect them with international clients. HLS standardises and independently assesses the service system around care — from first enquiry to follow-up after return.

Our role

A common standard for international patient services

International patients do not experience clinical care in isolation. Their confidence is shaped by how clearly an organisation responds, how well each step is coordinated and how consistently they are supported before, during and after treatment or a health programme.

HLS International Council is an independent, private, non-profit association that develops and promotes voluntary international standards for these organisational, service and non-clinical processes.

HLS combines published standards, evidence-based assessment, structured training and practical consulting to give facilities, facilitators and partners a common reference point across medical tourism, thermal health and longevity.

Scope

HLS does not accredit clinical care and does not replace statutory licences, public accreditation, mandatory certifications or clinical approvals.

How HLS works

From diagnostic to independent Qualification

The pathway is structured, evidence-based and designed to move from current-state review to practical implementation and independent assessment.

  1. 1

    Diagnostic

HLS maps the organisation’s current international patient pathway and identifies the gaps.

  2. 2

    Roadmap

A plan is agreed with management, with owners, dates and defined actions.

  3. 3

    Training

Relevant teams complete required or recommended course tracks and examinations.

  4. 4

    Implementation

The organisation puts procedures, scripts, records and working practices into daily use.

  5. 5

    Assessment

An independent assessment is carried out against the applicable HLS Standard, including evidence review.

  6. HLS Qualification

Where requirements are met: the applicable Qualification, mark licence and HLS Register entry for the validity term defined by the Standard.

Purchasing HLS consulting or training services does not guarantee Qualification.

Why service standards matter

Strengthen the pathway around clinical excellence

01

Reduce avoidable loss

Create clearer intake and response processes so international enquiries are less likely to be lost between teams or departments.

02

Build trust before first contact

Use a verified framework that helps patients and partners understand how international services are organised and supported.

03

Give teams a common framework

Align coordinators, clinical liaison staff and commercial teams around consistent communication and service processes.

04

Support defensible claims

Connect public-facing statements to documented evidence and defined processes.

05

Improve partner confidence

Give facilitators, referrers, agencies and other partners a published framework against which service organisation can be understood.

06

Connect to the HLS ecosystem

Qualified organisations can participate in an ecosystem that includes the HLS Register, professional networks, working groups, events and B2B connections.

Our standards framework

Built around documented requirements and evidence

Every HLS Qualification rests on four documented layers.

HLS standards address organisational, informational and service-level processes, not clinical care or medical protocols.

  1. 1
    The HLS Standard
    Published criteria defining the requirements.
  2. 2
    Assessment criteria
    Expectations known in advance.
  3. 3
    Evidence file
    Documentation submitted by the organisation.
  4. 4
    Independent assessment
    The formal qualification decision.
Membership

More than a qualification mark

HLS Membership brings together organisations and professionals working to improve international patient services. Members can contribute to industry standards, exchange knowledge, build international relationships and participate in a professional community around medical tourism, thermal health and longevity.
